Kimura Investments Limited holds and manages the private assets of a single family. It invests on its own account, answers only to its principals, and holds no mandate over the capital of any other person.
The office exists to hold a family's assets across generations rather than reporting periods. Preservation comes first, measured growth second.
Decisions are taken by the family and its directors. There are no outside investors to accommodate, no redemption calendar to manage and no obligation to deploy capital in a given year. The structure is deliberately small, and its administration is kept simple enough that the people responsible for a decision are the people who understand it.
Because the office answers only to its principals, it can hold a position through a cycle that managed capital would be forced to abandon. That patience is the reason for the structure, and the discipline it demands is the reason for its conservatism.
Every commitment is funded from the family's own balance sheet. The office does not raise, pool, solicit or accept capital from third parties, and it does not act as an intermediary in the capital of others. Proposals concerning the management of external capital are declined without exception.
The office holds a small number of positions it understands well, across private companies and listed securities, and expects to hold them for long periods. It does not trade for its own sake and takes no exposure it cannot explain in plain terms.
Where the office invests in a private business, it prefers to be known to the people running it. Its contribution is capital, continuity and counsel. It does not seek operational control and does not take positions that require it.
